Polymer
waveguides provide a compact and inexpensive method for performing
integrated optical detection in fluidic chips. Unfortunately,
for on chip fluidic and optic integration, the fluid systems
are usually designed around the optical components, making
systems more complex than necessary. We propose a new
fabrication process utilizing conventional machining, which
is capable of fabricating structures of arbitrary shape and
size, in an effort to create an integrated optical detection
system that does not impact the design of the fluidic system.
This talk will discuss the fabrication process and examine
the performance of fabricated waveguides. Simulations
and measurements of oxygen concentration with a fabricated
backplane will also be explored.
