4:15pm – Featured Seminar

At Qubit by Qubit (QxQ), we know that with the right support, it is possible for student organizations to have deep impacts on the educational trajectories of students within their communities. As a nonprofit initiative focused on making quantum education accessible and inclusive for K-16 students and educators, we have made it our mission to not only train students ourselves, but also ensure that local quantum ecosystems are sustainably set up to do so. Indeed, since 2020, we have taught quantum computing to over 20,000 K-16 students and educators from over 100 countries through in-person and virtual workshops, courses, internships, and research. In the process, we have developed sturdy infrastructure to involve student organizations to bring quantum computing to high school students in the areas in which they live.

In this seminar, Ali Warshay, the QxQ Program Director, will talk about the QxQ organization, including its mission and its various program offerings that make up its pipeline of opportunities for students of different ages and skill levels to pursue further studies in quantum. She will then discuss a few ways that Engage CUA can plug in to QxQ’s existing outreach framework, and how members can get involved in other quantum education efforts locally, nationally, or internationally. These opportunities include hosting a local summer camp, conducting in-person or virtual workshops for high school students in the Boston area, or developing or translating quantum computing curriculum. Finally, Amir Karamlou, an instructor at QxQ and graduate student in the MIT EQuS Group, will discuss his experiences teaching with QxQ over the past few years.
