Kerwin Kwek, PhD
Postdoctoral Associate
SMART – Biosym
Kerwin@smart.mit.edu

Kerwin joined SMART-BioSyM in November 2016 as a postdoctoral associate in Jongyoon Han’s Group. He completed his PhD at Dept of Biomedical Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS) and his previous postdoctoral experience was at Singapore Institute of Neurotechnology (SINAPSE) in NUS. His research was primarily focused on precision micro-nano particle separation using microfluidic deterministic lateral displacement (DLD) methods. By designing novel pillar shapes, it is possible to manipulate the rotation of bioparticles such as RBCs to increase the particle hydrodynamic radius for enhanced DLD separation. He extended his work to separate 190nm and 50nm particles using DLD surface electrostatic phenomenon. His research interest is to develop turn-key platform technology for isolation, detection and/or analysis of cells and bio-molecules.
