Capturing Light and Poking Neurons Using Nanowires
Professor Hongkun Park, Harvard University

ABSTRACT
In this presentation, I will discuss the research efforts of my group, concentrating on several most recent examples. Topics that will be discussed include (1) coupled single-photonic and plasmonic devices that allows the generation, guiding, and detection of single photons, (2) characterization of “photovoltaic” devices incorporating individual nanostructures and nanostructure/polymer composites, and (3) the use of vertical nanowire arrays for modifying neuronal differentiation and synapse formation through the controlled introduction of biochemical signals in a cell-specific fashion.
