Biographical Background
Dr. Gale S. Petrich is a principal investigator in the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He received the B.S.E.E., M.S.E.E, and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1986, 1989, and 1991 respectively. He joined RLE in 1992 as a postdoctoral associate, and was promoted to Research Scientist in 1995 and Principal Research Scientist in 2001.
Dr. Petrich's research involves the epitaxial growth of II-VI and III-V compound semiconductors using gas source molecular beam epitaxy. Of significant interest is the growth of GaAs-based and InP-based heterostructures through MBE systems. The structures are used to make active and passive photonic crystal devises, which are then explored for possible application into integrated optoelectronic circuits.
