The objective of the Headquarters staff of the Research
Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT) is simple: ensuring that
RLE provides an unsurpassed environment for academic
research and student learning.
Working under the Director of RLE, Jeffrey
H. Shapiro,
Julius A. Stratton Professor of Electrical Engineering,
a professional team of administrative, financial, technical
and service staff devote themselves to the success of
the Laboratory’s faculty, students, and staff.
RLE provides centralized, Laboratory-wide services
in five primary areas:
- Finance and Sponsored Programs
- Personnel Administration
- Information Systems and Networking
- Strategic Communications, Media and Design
- Operations and Support
Each area is led by one of RLE’s three Assistant
Directors: Joseph
F. Connolly (Administration), David
W. Foss (Information Technology Services), and William
Smith (Finance and Sponsor Relations). The Director
and the Assistant Directors form RLE’s executive
management team.
