ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Meeting facilities
The meeting will use conference spaces at MIT that include a state-of-the-art amphitheater-style lecture hall and adjacent areas for posters and refreshments. All these spaces are close to the offices and labs of the Speech Communication Group at MIT. MIT’s new Stata Center for Computer, Information, and Intelligence Sciences, a complex of interconnected buildings designed by Frank Gehry that promises to be a major architectural landmark, is slated for occupancy in January and completion in the spring of 2004 and is the most likely site for the meeting.

Banquet
A banquet is scheduled for Saturday evening. It is a New-England style clambake that will be held at Thompson Island in Boston Harbor. The clambake will also serve as an occasion to honor Prof. Kenneth Stevens. Prof. Stevens has trained a large number of speech scientists, many of whom have gone on to hold leading positions in academia and industry. He is very active as a teacher, mentor and research scientist and, in 2005, he will have been on the MIT faculty for 50 years.

Registration
On-line registration is now closed. On-site registration is on a space-available basis. Banquet tickets are not available for purchase on-site due to scheduling requirements.

Conference Support
We have already received generous pledges from several sources at MIT, including: the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE), half of which is earmarked for student participation; the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL); the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), all of which is earmarked for student participation; and the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department (EECS). We have also have applied for external funds. In addition, a number of individuals have generously provided support. If you are interested in supporting the conference, we'd be happy to send you information. You can write to us at speech50@speech.mit.edu, with the subject line "Requesting Information on Supporting Conference".
