Joong Bum received his B.S. degree, summa cum laude with honors, in Electrical Engineering from KAIST, Daejeon, South Korea, in 2008. He is pursuing his S.M. in the STIR group. His research interests include information theory, signal processing, and network theory.

At KAIST, he worked in the Wireless Communication Laboratory (WICL) and the Communication Networks Research Laboratory (CNR LAB). In WICL, he analyzed rateless codes by using density evolution and designed an optimal degree distribution of LT code for AWGN channel. In CNR LAB, he built a model to analyze the saturated throughput of WiMedia devices in the mixture of CSMA/CS protocol and a reservation-based mechanism.

Joong Bum is supported by the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies (KFAS).
