CUA Seminar: Tilman Esslinger – Not so gentle transport of cold atoms

Location:MIT 4-270
Tilman Esslinger, ETH Zurich
Ten Minute Talk:"Scalable Quantum Network: Congestion-free entanglement routing" by Hyeongrak Choi

Understanding out-of-equilibrium phenomena in quantum many-body systems is one of the great challenges in physics. Cold atoms provide a promising experimental platform for exploring the dynamics away from equilibrium and with strong interactions.
In my talk I will present two approaches to transport experiments: i) the directed transport of atoms between two connect traps acting as reservoirs, and, ii) the transport in a long-range topological pump. In both cases we explore regimes of strong interactions. In the first case, we observe an anomalously high current carrying irreversible entropy between two traps in the superfluid regime. In the second case, we show how strong interactions shift topological boundaries.
