Daniel Kleppner, a renowned physicist whose groundbreaking work in atomic physics contributed to the development of the Global Positioning System and laid the foundation for quantum computing, died on June 16 at a hospital in Palo Alto. He was 92. From 1987 to 2000, he was Associate Director of RLE. From 2001 to 2001, he was Interim Director of RLE. (Obituary: Washington Post)
