The American Academy of Arts and Sciences is pleased to hold its Induction weekend celebrations on September 9 and 10, 2022 in Cambridge, MA. The programs planned will be opportunities to meet fellow members elected in 2020 and 2021, to learn about the Academy’s work, and to formally celebrate new members elected to the Academy. Prof. Muriel Médard is one of the newly elected members who will be inducted into the Academy of Arts & Sciences.

Friday evening, at 7:30PM on September 9th, the Opening Celebration kicks off the weekend festivities with the Annual David M. Rubenstein Conversation, featuring a performance by Cellist Yo-Yo Ma and an address by David M. Rubenstein, Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of the Carlyle Group. This event will take place at the Klarman Hall, at Harvard Business School, Soldier’s Field Rd., Boston. An informal reception will follow at the Charles Hotel, Hyatt Regency Cambridge, and Sheraton Commander.

Then on the morning of Saturday September 10th, an Open House Reception starts the events from 9:00AM-10:00AM at the House of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, 136 Irving St., Cambridge. This will provide opportunities to visit the House of the Academy, meet fellow members, and view displays and posters of Academy history and ongoing work.

At 2:00PM on Saturday Sept. 10th, the Induction Ceremony takes place at Kresge Auditorium at MIT, 48 Mass. Ave. w16, Cambridge. The Induction Ceremony will last until 4:30PM and features: Kimberlé Crenshaw, Isidor and Seville Sulzbacher Professor of Law; Distinguished Professor of Law, Columbia Law School, and Promise Institute Chair in Human Rights, UCLA School of Law; Sanjay K. Gupta, Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Chief Medical Correspondent, Emory University and Warner Media, Faculty Neurosurgeon, Emory University School of Medicine, Associate Chief of Neurosurgery, Grady Memorial Hospital; Mary Kay Henry, International President, Service Employees International Union; Patricia Limerick, Faculty Director and Chair, Center of the American West; Professor of History, University of Colorado Boulder; and Lisa T. Su, President and Chief Executive Officer, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.

A Post-Ceremony Reception will follow from 4:45PM-7:00PM on the Kresge Lawn at MIT, Cambridge. Also, from 6:30PM-9:00PM the festivities conclude with a Platform Party Dinner at the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, Cambridge. The House of the Academy walking address is 1436 Irving St., Cambridge, while the vehicle entrance address is 200 Beacon St., Somerville.

Guests

We welcome you to bring up to three guests to join you at the Opening Celebration, Induction Ceremony, and Reception. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, we are able to accommodate only one guest at Saturday morning’s Open House at the Academy.

Hotels

We have reserved blocks of rooms at the Charles Hotel, the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, and the Sheraton Commander.

Transportation

Shuttles will be provided between all event venues and the Charles Hotel, the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, and the Sheraton Commander.

Additional Information

The Academy will follow relevant public health policies at the time of Induction, which may include attesting to vaccination or exemption from vaccination.
