Dr. Hazel Murray, MTU: “A journey in authentication security”

https://mit.zoom.us/j/93243104349
Passcode: mh-seminar

Abstract: Authentication is integral to our online world. We use it to secure our most important information and assets. Yet, authentication, and passwords, are a regular source of friction between users and websites.
In this talk I will describe the work completed during my PhD on authentication security. It will cover password advice, password security and a look at a new token-based authentication mechanism that uses quantum complexity.

Bio: Hazel is a cybersecurity researcher with research interests in password security, authentication, quantum cryptography and local differential privacy. She completed her PhD on authentication security at Maynooth University under an Irish Research Council Postgraduate Scholarship. Last year she worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Chicago working on practical implementations of local differential privacy. She is currently working as a cyber security lecturer at Munster Technological University. Her undergraduate is in Mathematics Education from Maynooth University.
