Quantum Non-Demolition Electron Microscope (QEM) (posted May 2012):
Post-doctoral candidates are sought with experience in one or more of: quantum optics, free-electron optics design, numerical simulation of electron systems, electron decoherence, and/or transmission-electron microscopy. Each individual will work with a small international team of researchers at MIT (K. Berggren and M. F. Yanik) and the Technical University of Delft (P. Kruit) in the Netherlands, Stanford University (M. Kasevich), and Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (P. Hommelhoff) to develop a new electron microscope based on quantum non-demolition measurements (Putnam & Yanik, Phys. Rev. A 80, 040902 (R) 2009). The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or Applied Physics. The emphasis of the work will be initially on the design of quantum-mechanically coherent electron resonators to demonstrate the proof of concept of the effect. Interested candidates should provide a cover letter, CV, writing sample, their preferred site(s) of work, and a list of references to QEMcandidate@mit.edu . Applications will be evaluated as received, with a candidate selection and appointment expected in summer or early fall of 2012. More information: https://www.rle.mit.edu/qem/
