Stewart is a postdoctoral associate in the Research Laboratory of Electronics at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He completed a PhD in Applied Physics at Stanford University in April 2021. As a graduate student, he designed new optics to improve the dose-limited resolution of transmission electron microscopes and developed new theory to describe the quantum limit on information per dose. He currently works on optimizing superconducting nanowire single photon detectors for dark matter detection and also on understanding the quantum mechanics of Smith-Purcell radiation.
