Finite element simulation of ridged finger skin

We are improving simulations of touch by adding skin ridges to an existing model the finger pad. Predictions of a finite element package (ABAQUS) are checked against mechanoreceptor responses and strains measured in human tissue. Differences between predictions of the model with and without finger ridges will illustrate the ridges’ role in touch.
