Location and Facilities

Nearly all activities of the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) take place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) main campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Core RLE research facilities and offices are located in the Fairchild Complex (MIT buildings 36 and 38) and in the Compton Laboratories (MIT building 26).

RLE Headquarters and the office of the Director are in MIT building 36. The main entrance of MIT building 36 is 50 Vassar Street in Cambridge.

RLE principal investigators also have offices and laboratories in other MIT locations, including MIT buildings 3, 10, 12, and 13, and off-campus at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, Massachusetts.

MIT is located on the north shore of the Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. The campus is within three miles of two major interstate highway and less than six miles from Logan International Airport. MIT is accessible via public transportation by subway and bus.

Directions to MIT Building 36

By subway. Take the Red Line to the Kendall/MIT station. The Kendall/MIT station is on the edge of the east end of campus. Walk west on Main Street, and take a left at Vassar Street. You may then continue down Vassar Street to the main entrance of MIT building 36 at 50 Vassar Street.

By taxi. You should ask for “50 Vassar Street, Cambridge, at MIT.” Taxi fare from the airport is about $25-$40. The ride can take fifteen to forty five minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

By car. The principal routes to reach 50 Vassar Street are from Massachusetts Avenue in Boston and Cambridge, and from Main Street in Cambridge. Main Street connects to Central Square in Cambridge and to the Longfellow Bridge between Cambridge and Boston. Please note that public parking in Cambridge is severely limited. From time to time, RLE can provide one-day MIT visitor parking passes to RLE principal investigators who make an request in RLE Headquarters at least one week in advance.
