The Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) announces that Dr. Herwig Kogelnik, Adjunct Photonic Systems Vice President, Lucent Technologies — Bell Labs, will deliver the first Hermann Anton Haus Lecture. The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 25 April 2005.

The title of the lecture is, “On Optical Communication: Reflection and Perspectives.”

Dr. Kogelnik’s long career of pioneering achievements in optoelectronics form a distinguished career in engineering research, and have received world-wide acclaim. The IEEE awarded Dr. Kogelnik the 2001 Medal of Honor for, “…fundamental contributions to the science and technology of lasers and optoelectronics, and for leadership in research and development of photonics and lightwave communications systems.”

The Herman Anton Haus Lecture is RLE’s new visiting lecturer program designed to bring the leading world researchers in fields intersecting RLE interests to MIT to share their thoughts and perspectives with the RLE community. The Lecture honors the memory of Professor Haus, and continues the process of collaborative dialog that he promoted throughout his lifetime.
