RLE is pleased to announce that Cheryl Charles, Fiscal Officer for the Research Laboratory of Electronics, has won the MIT Excellence Award for her work involving employee resource groups at MIT. Cheryl is being recognized along with a team of employees from across the institute who share interests, issues, and a common bond or background. Members of these groups create a positive work environment at MIT by actively contributing to the Institute’s mission, values, and efforts specific to inclusion, such as recruitment and retention. Four resource groups currently exist at MIT: Asian; Latino/Hispanic; LGBT; and the Africa, Black, American, and Carribbean (ABAC) resource group—the last of which Ms. Charles co-leads. ABAC strives to promote a welcoming environment in which employees feel trusted and included in the community.  The group’s sponsor is Prof. Ed Bertschinger, the Institute’s Community and Equity Officer.

The MIT Excellence Awards acknowledge the extraordinary efforts made by members of the MIT community toward fulfilling the goals, values, and mission of the Institute. These are among the highest honors awarded to staff by MIT. Professionalism, commitment to best practices, and high standards of excellence are at the heart of these awards.

An awards ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25 from 3–4pm in the Kresge Auditorium followed by a reception in the Kresge Lobby from 4–5pm.
